    Question [=?] super bowl rental

    I have my house up for rent for the super bowl in Phoenix, AZ for 1 week.They can not use the garage. The city emailed me that i need to get a license and pay 5% tax like a hotel/motel. This is only a one time deal. I have a rental agreement form like a tenant/landlord agreement. Can the city do this?

    Well point is Phoenix has had a 5% short term rental tax on the books for quite a while plus a license requirement......and I'm quite sure they can do it. Its a simple look ou on Phoenix tax sites and its covered as a hotel tax if you make a short term rental of 31 days or less.

    As an aside--if you rent your place out and your tenant trashed the place OR gets hurt I'd also bet your homeowners policy won't cover you!

    Now do your own home work and don't shoot the messenger.

    I live in Phoenix and I see signs on every street corner "Rent your house for 1000 per day for the Super Bowl."

    Yes, the city can charge you the tax and fee and take you to court for it.

    Drew's correct.

    Take it from me, the claim rep, that I'd deny any claim in a heartbeat under the following provision provision of your policy:

    "Concealment Or Fraud
    We provide coverage to no "insureds" under this policy if, whether before or after a loss, an "insured" has:
    1.Intentionally concealed or misrepresented any material fact or circumstance;
    2.Engaged in fraudulent conduct; or
    3.Made false statements; relating to this insurance."

    Then I'd send the policy to the underwriting department for cancellation or non-renewal and you'd be paying twice the price for your next policy.

    I hope you are getting a lot of money for the week, cause you are going to need it if something goes wrong.

    If you want to do this right, get the license, pay the tax, and notify your insurance agent in writing and get your policy properly endorsed for the rental period.
