    Is this legal

The other day i got demoted.  In the meeting that I had with HR and my manageer I was told that I would go to a different shift and that no one would be told why i was demoted that everything would be kept  between us.  I left early that same day later on that night i get a phone call from one of my former associates telling me that they had a big meeting telling all of my associates what had happened to me and what i would be doing next.  Is this in violation of any privacy policy.

I'm going to split a hair here.

It may or may not be in violation of any company privacy POLICY. It is not, however, in violation of any privacy LAW.

It's not illegal, under any state law, for the company to do what it did.

It may have been a violation of an internal company policy.  Unfortunately, I don't think there's much you legally can do with a violation of an internal company policy unless you are contract employee or there is a collective bargaining agreement that governs.  Your post does not suggest that either scenario applies..

The company may have an internal corporate policy specific to that business that says all employee matters are private. In which case by revealing the information to everyone they violated POLICY.

Employment law does not address it and therefore it is legal under the LAW to reveal the information.

There are no civil or criminal penalties for the employer violating their own policy in this case by revealing your demotion and why.

Policy can be changed or deviated from at any time by the employer as the need arises.  The employer MUST comply with the law or face stiff penalties from the government and possible civil action if they don't.

    Re: Is this legal

What most people call harassment is perfectly legal.

I am guessing that you need to move on.  It seems like matters between you and your current employer are heading towards irreconcileable differences.  You are not going to win this battle.

    Re: Is this legal

Why? What is the reason for the harassment and what form does it take?

It makes a difference to the answer. Not all or even most of what many people consider "harassment" is illegal.
