In 2009 I received a wage garnishment notice for the debt plus 4 years of interest. Is this legal?

    Yes.

Kentucky judgments are enforceable for 15 years and accrue post-judgment interest at a rate of 12%.

    Feltwiener:
Can they just rack up 4 years of interest even after I tried to settle the debt?

    Yes.

"Tried to settle the debt" is not the same as "paying" the debt.

The way you "settle" a judgment debt is that you write a check for the entire amount of the judgment plus court costs plus accrued interest to the date of the check.

    Feltwiener:
It's not like they couldn't find me from 2005-2009.

Wasn't up to the creditor to hunt you down. The court ordered you to pay X dollars, you didn't pay X dollars when you were ordered to do so and now you have the garnishment.

You can get rid of the garnishment by paying in full or filing bankruptcy if you are eligible.

Why don't you go f#ck off and die jack. You sad, little, militant message board douch bag. The internet has really shown how pathetic you people are.

I usually try to refrain from getting involved in squabbles between posters -- that's up to the moderaters -- and I have reported the abuse in this post. However, this statement is completely unnecessary and vulgar.  You posted asking for help, and Jack answered with objective information.  Although you don't like it, is that reason for a hissy fit?

I can easily pay what I burrowed from the creditor.

Then you should have paid it when it was due way back when.

    Feltwiener:
What I can't pay is the extra 800% in interest and fees.

Look in the mirror and you'll see the ONLY person responsible for that.

Typical, irrational, shoot-the-messenger response from somebody who denies responsibility for his own actions and can't bear the truth.
